Art Nouveau on Lake Como

The origin of our relationship with beauty

The architecture of the Como side of Lario is characterised by beautiful buildings in Art Nouveau style. Hence our relationship with beauty, our fascination with an architectural style characterised by the Belle Époque and theArt Nouveauconsidered 'modern' and free in the early 1900s.
Although more than a century has passed since the explosion of this artistic current, even today the beauty of the Art Nouveau style is there for all to see and certainly does not go unnoticed.

You only have to travel a few kilometres along the coast of Lake Como to be enraptured by the sight of Art Nouveau buildings that blend perfectly with the surrounding nature, thanks to the soft, free and dynamic shapes.

Starting from Brunate, a small municipality of only 1600 inhabitants, you can admire numerous villas and gardens that combine the Art Nouveau and eclectic styles. One of them even won over the New York Times, one of the world's most famous newspapers. The building, built on the rock and consisting of four bedrooms, six bathrooms and a large terrace overlooking Lake Como, literally stole the heart of the American newspaper, so much so that it produced an exclusive article on its beauty.

In the small village of Lazy, rises instead imposing Villa Peduzziperched in a dominant position and directly overlooking Lake Como. Recently renovated, it now offers a wonderful example of modern design, with Scandinavian and Japanese elements, combined with Art Nouveau style. Modernity and history embrace in a luxurious setting surrounded by greenery. For lovers of beauty, it is possible to rent the villa on Airbnb, to enjoy comfort and design.

The Art Nouveau of Cernobbio

Arrived at CernobbioAmong the most emblematic buildings is thelanding stage in Piazza Risorgimento, Como's famous pier for embarking and disembarking boats, characterised by a metal base with cast-iron columns in Art Nouveau style  but with vaulted roofs in neo-Gothic style. From here it is possible to reach by boat the beautiful village of Bellagio, loved by tourists from all over the world.

One of the buildings of rare beauty, emblematic not only of the Art Nouveau style but also of the town of Cernobbiois without doubt Villa Bernasconinow a modern museum offering a modern and interactive cultural experience.

Villa Bernasconi: Liberty elegance in Cernobbio

The history and architecture of the landmark building of the 'Silk City'.

Designed by Alfredo Campanini and constructed between 1905 and 1906, the building was made for the engineer Davide Bernasconi as 'fashionable home'.

Villa Bernasconi is a important symbol for Cernobbio, not only for its artistic value, but also for its special entrepreneurial aspectresulting from the well-known activity in the textile sector of the owner.

The reference to textile activity,, can be found in both external decorationswith clear representations of the life cycle of the silkworm and mulberry tree, both in the particular position in which it was built.

The villa is located within the so-called 'silk citadel" in Cernobbio, among the administrative buildings, the workers' and managers' houses and the kindergarten, still in operation today, built especially for the company's workers.

Villa Bernasconi is a unique element in the Art Nouveau panorama Italian and we are extremely fascinated by it.

If you want to be inspired by its floral and sinuous shapes and its ornamental apparatus, you can visit thethe only villa in Cernobbio open to the public.

Its particular design and the artistic value of its decorations make it a real jewel in the Como landscape and an emblem of Art Nouveau at a national level.
